About Me

John Todd

Welcome to my art store. Capturing beautiful images is what motivates my art, and I hope this work will connect and inspire you.

After graduating from St. Lawrence University with a history degree, I started my career in 1988 working as a photojournalist for the Westport News and the Brooks Newspapers in CT. In 1990, I returned to Palo Alto to start my own photography business. My work covers a wide range of photography including corporate, advertising, sports and fine art.

My clients include the U.S. Men and Women’s soccer teams, Stanford University, and the San Jose Earthquakes. My images have been published in Time Magazine, USA Today, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Sports Illustrated, ESPN the Magazine, and have been used by companies such as Apple, Nike, Gatorade, and AT&T, as well as displayed at the Smithsonian Institution.

Please reach out with any questions or comments. I'd love to hear from you. Phone: (650) 906-7753    Email: jt@johntodd.com

career highlights

My news and commercial photography career has taken me to 7 World Cups, 1 Olympics and to over 20 NCAA Football Bowl games, as well as travel around the globe. As an instructor in the Stanford Continuing Studies Program, I've taught photography for over 15 years, leading 7 Yosemite Workshops, and numerous sports, lighting and landscape courses.

Techniques

Clean, crisp, and thoughtful are words that describe my work. I consider myself a generalist, and I find all aspects of photography intriguing. I am fascinated by all forms of the craft. The concept of Thin Places motivates me to find those moments when the walls of heaven and earth are closest.

Inspiration

I have always looked to the classic photography of Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Edward Weston, and Robert Doisneau for inspiration and motivation. Additionally, the work of Galen Rowell has influenced my color work and vision.
